Excavations

The purpose of excavation is to investigate, and seek a better understanding of, the archaeological resource within a given area. JMHS Ltd conducts excavations prior to the development of residential and industrial schemes, as well as cemetery extensions, on a local and regional scale. Our team compiles a comprehensive record; analyses and interprets the results; and creates detailed publications to disseminate this information.

Evaluations

The purpose of field evaluation is to gain information about the archaeological resource within a given area or site (including presence or absence; character and extent; potential date; integrity; state of preservation, and quality), in order to make an assessment of its merit in the appropriate context. JMHS Ltd carries out evaluations in response to a proposed development, and as part of the planning process for a wide range of projects: from small building extensions through to major pipelines, roads, and other regional scale projects. 

Watching Briefs

The objective of a watching brief is to archaeologically monitor ground-works to identify and examine any archaeological finds. This is a specialist service offered by JMHS Ltd, as the company has been involved in a large number of watching briefs, evaluations, and full-scale excavations involving the investigation of burial grounds, which range from Bronze Age barrows to post-medieval churchyards.
